I read this interview with Joe from Pixar today and something in it really clicked with me. Btw this is what I want to do for a living, I want to be a story artist. Not a concept artist, not a storyboard artist, but a STORY artist:D
Anyway this is the bit that got to me:
For a time, you taught at CalArts—and many of your students are working at Pixar and other animation studios today. What advice would you give to aspiring story artists?
Try to draw something that connects with people. Draw things that connect with yourself and try to express that through your drawings so that other people get it. At Pixar, it has to do with character. Whether it’s an individual character that you’re trying to find the expression of, or the character of the environment. How does it feel? What does it evoke in others? Is it funny, sad, beautiful, irritating, claustrophobic, invigorating? Work on creating expressive drawings—drawings that feel like they’re alive.
How amazingly wonderful advice IS THAT? Its great! Its so what I needed to hear right now... I have been feeling like I should be work drawing, when in reality the best drawing I could do right now would be "me" drawing, the kind that opens up your mind and your heart and lets it all bleed down on to the page.
Its been a bad weekend. What can I say...

Now, I know this is a workblog, but it has to be said, a lot of emotional springcleaning was done this weekend. Way too much went down and it did rather sidetrack me from my tasks.
Having said that, I found some amazingly inspiring websites and videos and artwork and am gonna share them here with yall:)
First up is the amazing video to Her Morning Elegance with Oren Lavie...
Next there is this rather bizarre but amazing 3D work on MoistProduction.Com.

And finally theres this here:D Its pretty obvious the artist has used himself as the reference for all the characters in the piece, but its still damn cool:D

Tomorrow uni starts again, so am gonna spend the next hour preparing myself a bit before going in! Seeya later folks!
